El Cortijo dove hunting lodge in Cordoba, Argentina.

John and Retta Matthews, a sweet couple from Texas, had been hunting doves in Cordoba with SyC Sporting. Berenice, our english speaking guide, took them for a short tour into the Cordoba city center best places to visit. John and Retta’s first time in Córdoba began at Plaza San Martín, which is the most important square of the city. There we admired the square’s central statue; a mounted General José de San Martin, an Argentine soldier, statesman, and national hero who helped... lead the revolutions against Spanish rule in Argentina (1812), Chile (1818), and Peru (1821). We continued the tour by going inside La Catedral, the mother church of the city, whose imposing pink-hued façade catches anyone’s attention immediately. La Catedral was built by the Jesuits between 1582 and 1706 and featured a mixture of architectural styles, such as Classic and American Baroque. On the ceiling of this sublime building is a marvelous piece of art called La Gloria del Cielo painted by Emilio Caraffa, a famous Argentine painter who became known for signing his paintings with a portrait of himself instead of a signature. We stopped briefly to admire a Gaucho Statue and a Jeronimo Luis de Cabrera statue, the founder of Cordoba (1573), which are both located behind La Catedral. Next to the Cathedral is el Cabildo, a building which was the government’s meeting place in 1588. A few years later, it was turned into the police headquarters. Once inside, we visited el Museo de la Memoria, a part of el Cabildo that was used as a clandestine place during the 1976’s dictatorship. Today, el Cabildo functions as a cultural centre in which pieces of art by artists from Cordoba are displayed. We walked, visited and learned about this city’s history while sharing interesting stories and enjoying the nice weather. Towards the end of the tour, we walked around Nueva Córdoba neighbourhood and visited el Paseo del Buen Pastor, a recreational and cultural centre crowded by students. There, we stopped to admire las Aguas Danzantes and take pictures of the beautiful background, which included not only the beautiful dancing waters but also a partial view of Los Capuchinos, a church which impresses with its gothic style and number of statues. After all the visiting and exploring, we went to a nice restaurant called Italy. There, we sat down and enjoyed delicious slices of toasted bread and avocado. We noticed a slight difference in the making of these avocado toasts; here, the chef used sliced avocados, while in other places chefs use mostly smashed avocados. After an entire day of sharing historical information, it was quite nice to relax, have a coffee and talk about anything else. John and Sarah, father and daughter, shared a week hunting and exploring Argentina. Upon their arrival they spent a day in the city of Cordoba with our english speaking tour guide Berenice. It was a Sunday morning and the city showed its quiet face. The tour started with a drive through the National University of Cordoba, founded in 1613 it's the oldest of Argentina. It hosts 15 faculties, 17 museums, 25 libraries and approximately 132 thousands students. Cordoba city combi...nes the old and the new. It haves 400 years old buildings like the Cathedral and modern cafes & bars for youngsters. The history about The Cathedral, the Jesuit’s blocks, and the main square is fascinating. For instance there are subterranean passages which the religious people used to go from the Cathedral to their residences. To have a taste of Argentina John and Sarah had a coffee with "alfajores", cookies sandwiches with "dulce de leche" or milk caramel, some pasta and meat for lunch and cake in the afternoon. After visiting the ex women’s prison, the Capuchinos church and having lunch, it was time to see the artists of the place. A flea market shows the most authentic handcrafts in a bohemian neighborhood called "barrio Guemes". After the tour they spent 4 days hunting doves and relaxing at our lodge.
